26.2 Reasons to Run a Marathon

I recently stumbled across Heather Daniel’s List, which inspired me to write my own list.

  1.  It’s an excuse to shop for new running clothes.
  2. The after party will be kicking.
  3.  I will receive yet another XL t-shirt to wear when I clean my house.
  4.  I can sport some cool bling when I wear my medal at the next playdate.
  5.  The race will be recorded and immortalized on my Active.com profile.
  6.  My moment of glory will be captured by the licensed photographer, who will take yet another dorky photo of me during the race.
  7.  My family and friends will be there to cheer for me.
  8.  The Disney Princesses and cast members will wave to me as I run through the parks.
  9.  Sponsors and vendors will shower me with free stuff.
  10.  Before the start of the race, I hope to hear Minnie Mouse proclaim once again, “If you dream it, you can do it!”
  11.  I will experience the magic of Disney during my own “magic hour”.
  12.  Hal Higdon is sexy knowledgeable inspiring and I don’t want to disappoint Hal.
  13.  Sweaty chicks are sexy hot .
  14.  Because I never thought I would ever run further than a ¼ mile.
  15.  I will escape from my family for at least 5 hours.
  16.  I can listen to songs on my playlist that do not include Laurie Berkner or David Weinstone.
  17.  It’s an opportunity to work on my tan.
  18.  I can eavesdrop on other runners’ conversations.
  19.  When do you ever wake up to witness a beautiful sunrise?
  20.  The adrenaline rush will be an unbelievable high.
  21.  I love the camaraderie and support among runners.
  22.  The cheers of the crowd at the finish line always fill me with pride and make me cry.
  23.  When I cross the finish line, I will feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.
  24.  I have trained hard for it.
  25.  I need to do it before I turn 40.
  26.  I will be a role model for my girls.

26.2 Because I can.

Does a half-marathon count? You can add:
    * to have complete strangers call out your name…seriously, for my first 10K I had no idea they were talking to me. “Cool,” I thought, “there’s someone with the same name as me running nearby.” I totally wasn’t clued into the fact that my name was on my bib.
    * to have extremely annoying cow bells rung as you are dredging up every ounze of will power not to drop to the ground and weep uncontrollably.
