Thanks to my friend, Kelly, for the “snow” pics.
Since it poured here all day Saturday, Tiffany and I were not in the mood for a soggy run with the Striders at Starkey Park. Although we skipped out on the rainy day run, we faced frigid weather for Sunday’s run because at 6 a.m., it was a frosty 38 degrees. Thankfully, I recently bought a pair of dollar knit gloves at Target for just these frosty, cold snap Florida mornings.
However, I’ve been so lazy and completely slacking on my miles. With little sleep, I’m still finding it hard to get out of the bed in the morning and Sunday was the first time I ran all week. Tiffany hadn’t run much since Thanksgiving either. We hoped to do 10-12 miles, but barely made it to 7 miles and it was slow getting to 7 miles at that!

This Sunday, we have the Holiday Halfathon and I’m really dreading it for several reasons. Firstly, the weather has been so unpredictable. As of now, it will be about 64 degrees early Sunday morning with a high of 79 degrees. But, the forecast also predicts a 30% chance of rain on Sunday and a 40% chance of rain on Monday, which all depends on how slow or quickly the cold front rolls through by then. And with all the crazy weather, I simply don’t know what to wear! Oh the horror!
Secondly, I haven’t been training as much as I should in order to be truly prepared for the race. I had all good intentions to run this morning. I even laid out my clothes, but this stupid lack of sleep thing is really ruining it for me. I guess I have a lot on mind which is preventing me from getting a good night’s sleep. Funny thing, exercise is such a great way to relieve stress so it’s a pity that I can’t seem to swing it! My friend, Nicole, suggested I try changing my routine and run in the evening which sounds like a great plan. Now, if only I could get my lazy lump off the couch to try that out!
Since Barenaked for the Holidays is one my favorite Christmas albums, I’ve selected Barenaked Ladies’ version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen for this week’s Christmas Musical Monday theme.
More than an album full of stuffy Christmas standards, Barenaked Ladies showcase their talents and humor with their own style and flare of holiday favorites. Adding Sarah McLachlan’s sweet angelic voice as an accompaniment to their joyful sound of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen makes this Christmas classic even more enjoyable.
And since Hanukkah, starts this Friday, I shared Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah by BNL on Blip.fm since I couldn’t find it on You Tube.
Happy Hanukkah!
I first met the amazingly talented Anissa Mayhew at the Tampa Blogher Meetup. Since her untimely stroke, a super mom, uber blogger has been trapped inside her head. Every day I pray for her release and recovery. I pray that Anissa, her family and her husband, Peter, find the strength to pull through this.

Since the clocks went back a month ago, my sleep patterns have been totally irregular. I’ve been falling asleep around 9 p.m. only to wake up between hours of 12:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. and I remain wide awake for a few hours unable to fall back to sleep. Then, around 4:00 a.m., my body is ready for my morning nap. With this awful disruptive sleep pattern, it’s been a real struggle to find the motivation to run. Needless to say, this has been a week full of rest.
I had pre-registered to run in the Annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, but with my lack of a decent night’s sleep, I simply did not have the mental or physical strength to deal with another race. After dealing with the crowd and my heat exhaustion of the Women’s Half Marathon last Sunday, I simply couldn’t face it again for Thursday’s 10K Turkey Trot. So, I blew off the race and didn’t regret it one bit.

However, I did manage to run 6 miles a little later that morning and it was lovely. The streets were peaceful, not a car on the road. The weather was beautiful and so were all the wonderful aromas of Thanksgiving throughout my neighborhood. I could smell exactly what items were on each neighbor’s Thanksgiving menu as I ran past their houses. With whiffs of baking bread and roasting turkeys combined with a quiet gorgeous morning, I was truly thankful for my Thanksgiving morning run.
On Saturday, Tiffany and I ran 10 miles. With the Holiday Halfathon only 3 weeks away, we weren’t quite sure how to train for another half-marathon so close to our last one. We figured 10 miles offered a much needed step back and a good base to train back up to a half marathon. Since we were both pretty sore from the half marathon, we took the 10 miles easy and didn’t push ourselves too hard.

And, Saturday was the last time I ran. With my awful sleep patterns, all I want to do is stay in bed. Hopefully, I’ll run tomorrow. *yawn* We’ll see.
For the past 30 days, my girls and I have been giving many gifts, but our 30 Gifts in 30 Days challenge draws to an end just as the season of giving begins. Therefore, I thought I would offer one more gift to celebrate the end of our successful challenge and the start of the gift giving season.
The Fuchsia Beach Crocs I received as part of my Women’s Half Marathon goodie bag are too small. When I registered for the race, I ordered the wrong size (small W6-7/M4-5), but my mistake is another’s gain or what I prefer to call “My Small Feat for Small Feet Giveaway”.
So, if you would like to win these pretty in hot pink Crocs, then simply leave a comment below. These size W6-7/M4-5 Beach Crocs would be a great treat for a petite feet friend. One lucky winner will be randomly selected on Tuesday, December 8, 2009.
