Fireworks and Lights

Like everyone else in America on Independence Day (July 4th), I obsessively tried to capture photos of fireworks.  After reading Naptime Momtog’s tutorial, I set my camera appropriately…except I failed to use a tripod.

I was too busy taking photos of the kids and our street performance.

Every time a bomb burst in the air, I would quickly spin myself in the general direction, click and hope for the best, sometimes only catching the tail end of the fireworks.

As a result, my firework photos have a slight swirly burred effect to them.

At least the photos of the kids with their sparklers came out really cool…

…and I don’t fear photographing the lights anymore.

Your children look like they are having so much fun. I remember those days. I have not seen any fireworks in years, because I am always overseas on the 4th of July. Thanks for sharing your photos. :)

Night time shots are difficult at best to capture good photos without a tripod, but the important thing is you did get these moments preserved forever digitally. Way to go for you! I love the photo of the children best. And, what a great song to go with your theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me! You totally rock!!! ^.^

Lovely photos; looks like you all had a great 4th! Catchy song selection, too! This is the first time I’ve ever heard anything by Ellie Goulding – all I knew about her previous to this is that she is Skrillex’s girlfriend.

Those were great pictures of your 4th of July celebration! Those are neat sparklers. Here in California, we can only get some wimpy ones. Thanks for sharing.

great sparkler shots…about the best i’ve come to capturing the color of fireworks is with slide film…which is made for artificial light sources. print film will just render everything yellow and orange. My days managing a photo shop are coming thru…
