Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure Celebrates 15 Years!

SuncoastRacefortheCureFor 4 out of my 5 years as a mother runner blogger, I have participated in the Race for the Cure. This year, the Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure will celebrate its 15th Annual Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure.  To honor this special occasion, Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure will offer a Race for the Ribbon 15K Challenge, which combines the 10K and 5K.

Of course, when I heard challenge, I had to go for it.  But this year, I am more than stepping up for a Race for the Ribbon 15K Challenge.  I have stepped up to serve as a Susan G. Komen RAC Pack Ambassador.

RACPack

As RAC Pack ambassador, I learned some interesting facts about the Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast:

  • The Suncoast chapter was founded in 1999 and serves six counties including Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota and funded over $12 million in grants.
  • Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast has provided funding for 40,000 mammograms and through this funding of our programs, 1200 cases of breast cancer have been detected and treated.
  • Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast also funds programs that provide breast cancer education, screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow up to uninsured and under insured women and men in our service area.
  • Approximately $920,000 will fulfill eight programs this year, including seven screening programs and one education and outreach program.

To find a program or screening services in your area visit Komensuncoast.org

Join me this Saturday, October 6 by participating in one of the Race for a Cure events to help Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast continue its efforts to educate and provide programs for all who depend on its services for treatment.

To encourage everyone to participate and ultimately help raise awareness and funding for breast cancer, there are competitive (timed and chipped) and non competitive categories to include everyone to Race for a Cure.  All categories will receive a race packet and shirt.

Depends on how crazy I’m feeling at that time! For sure the 10k competitive, but could I do the 15k? I haven’t run an event yet, but am doing short distances throughout the week without feeling challenged. I don’t really know what I can handle!
BTW, you seriously rock. I mean, hard core 🙂
