RANdom Thoughts About the Flu, a #TeamDannyDid Airheads Fundraiser and Three Weeks Until Chicago

Over a week ago, I came down with Influenza B. Although I finished my Tamiflu prescription days ago and it’s been ten days since I first came down with the illness, I’m still not functioning at 100%. My doctor said it could take at least two weeks to fully recover from the flu and it looks like it may take that long. I feel tired all the time and I can’t shake this cough. Plus, the Tamiflu totally destroyed my digestive tract and it ain’t pretty. I have no appetite and when I do eat, food goes right through me. Bleh.

The very last time I ran was on 9/11. I even wore red, white and blue to honor the day.

Prior to the run, I felt tightness in my chest, but I thought it was my allergies and I decided to ignore the wheezing and go for a run because I was so excited to run in a new-to-me running location, Crystal Beach. Little did I know Crystal Beach had hills! Who knew?!

I explored the private roads to find a path that led me to the Pinellas Trail.

The trail offered limited shade and I began to heat up fast. Thankfully, I had my Nathan hand-held water bottle, but still couldn’t cool down. Between the coughing and the heat, I had to walk quite a bit. Once I reached the Palm Harbor trailhead, I turned around.

When I made it back to our Crystal Beach vacation home, I collapsed and contaminated 16 of my closest mommy friends and my sister. Saturday, I went home and I spent the next 10 days in bed.

This Saturday, my daughters and I are supposed to the run the Thin Mint Sprint, but I’m not sure how much running I will be doing. Hopefully, I will have enough energy to finish a 5K. I suppose I will have to let go of my dreams of finishing in the top 50 to score some Thin Mints. Stupid flu!

That stupid flu really put a damper in my marathon training! The furthest distance I have managed thus far has only been 18 miles. I know I can run 26.2 because I’ve done it before, but I wanted to do well at Chicago. Right now, I’m just hoping to finish under 5 hours without coughing or collapsing.

My friend, Nanci, has planned a 17 mile group run on Sunday, October 5th and depending on how I feel, I may shoot for 20 miles just to have that mileage under my fuel belt before Chicago.

As for the fundraising portion of the Chicago Marathon, I’m hosting a #TeamDannyDid Airheads FUNdraiser on Monday, September 29 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. There will be raffles and lots of fun so come join me and my kids as we jump for epilepsy with a fitness-friendly way to raise money for charity.

If you want to join me to jump for epilepsy, RSVP via Facebook here.

Ohhhhhhh! You poor thing! I’m so sorry you’ve been so sick! Just having the regular flu bad enough (and annoying) but you really had to go for the win on that one, didn’t you? Hopefully you’ll get back in the groove soon – but make sure you pace yourself (pun intended) so you don’t have a relapse or something. (HUGZ!!))
