Pinning and Planning Our Dinner Menu – Week of December 7

One week into December and I’ve already survived two holiday functions. In case you missed it last week, I shared some tips to survive the holidays without overeating. On Sunday, I followed my own advice by bringing my Asian-Style Broccoli Slaw to my running group’s potluck holiday picnic. Sticking to my own dish helped my steer away from junk food and sweets.

With one week down, we also completed our first week of Advent calendar activities. Last week, the kids and I made ornaments, candy cane garland and a live presentation of The best Christmas Pageant Ever. This week, we will enjoy homemade Christmas pizza and a Christmas movie, but on Monday we will visit Experience Bethlehem.

Since Hope Methodist is down the road from Craft Street Kitchen, I decided to take the family for dinner there before we Experience Bethlehem. Craft Street Kitchen is this outstanding new restaurant in Trinity, Florida that serves local, seasonal foods. This eclectic, affordable family-friendly restaurant offers an amazing selection of entries and craft beer on draft. On Mondays, Craft Street Kitchen offers $5 burgers, so I thought we could fill our bellies with beer and burgers before we visited Baby Jesus at Bethlehem. Of course, filling our bellies with burgers means that Monday will not be Meatless this week. Therefore, I’ve bumped our meatless day back to Tuesday.

My kids have only two weeks left of school until Winter Break, so I really need to get Christmas under control before they are with me 24-7. I also have one more race before the holidays, the Holiday Halfathon. After that race on Sunday, I will be scaling back my training during the holidays. I feel like I need to take a break from running and switch up my workouts, like cycling more.

Here’s our dinner menu for the week:

Sunday – Suncoast Striders Holiday Picnic

Monday – Burgers at Craft Street Kitchen

Meatless Tuesday – Vegetable Samosas and Kachumber Salad

Wednesday – Ground Turkey Chili with Brown Rice

Thursday – Christmas Pizza and a Mixed Greens Salad

Friday – Leftovers
