Monster Jam Makes a Monumental Return to Tampa

Disclaimer: My family, friends and I received Monster Jam tickets from Feld Entertainment in exchange for promoting the Tampa events.

If you follow @run_dmt on Instagram, you would have seen our two little Elves on the Shelf performing Monster Truck shenanigans and stunts. When Giggles and Sparkles heard the news about Monster Jam returning to Tampa for two shows: January 14 and February, they couldn’t contain their excitement.

Elf on the Shelf - Monster truck

The elves weren’t the only little ones excited! In our family, my six year old son is a HUGE Monster Jam fan, even more so than Giggles and Sparkles. He loves watching the Monster Jam trucks leap and fly in the air. In fact much to his delight, we have witnessed some trucks leap a distance over 125 feet (longer than 14 cars side by side) and 35 feet in the air!

Grave Digger - Monster Jam

Of all the Monster Jam competitors, Monster Mutt and Grave Digger top Liam’s list and he shrills with wide-eyed excitement when he sees the trucks race at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour or spot Monster Mutt rolling over and play dead.

Monster Mutt

To make this year’s  Monster Jam a bigger deal than ever, Dennis Anderson -Grave Digger driver (celebrating his 35th as a competitor) and his son Ryan Anderson driving Son-uva Digger will compete in the January 14 show, bringing together TWO generations of Monster Jam drivers to compete to be the Tampa champion!

Son-Uva-Grave Digger - Monster Jam Tampa

Did you know that Monster Jam competitors are trained at Monster Jam University to master the skills of driving Monster Jam trucks? No wonder the drivers make it looks so effortless! Only those Monster Jam athletes highly proficient in scaling their extraordinary driving skills will push the limits and optimize all types of racing and obstacle courses here in 2017 in Tampa.

Since this will be my family’s third time attending Monster Jam, we’ve decided to do it right this time, making our third experience a charm. For this year’s Monster Jam event, we are planning to rent an RV to tailgate like Monster Jam rock stars!

If you’ve never been, tailgating makes the Monster Jam experience even more fun! The parking lot is full of families and fans tailgating with grills for cookouts and corn hole to pass the time away while they wait for the main event.

Party in the Pits - Monster Jam

Of course, when you tailgate you can take full advantage of The Party in the Pits from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., which offers fans an opportunity to get up close and personal with the Monster Jam trucks and drivers and enjoy other high-flying pre-show stunts. Fans can find Party in the Pits for tickets $10 in addition to show tickets or find them free at participating Southern Ford Dealers locations beginning January 1.

Celebrating its monumental 25th year, Monster Jam will roar in to Raymond James Stadium for two big shows: January 14 and February 4 at 7 p.m. For tickets and complete details, logo on to monsterjam.com and online.

Grave Digger is cool and all, but Maximum Destruction did a backflip a few years ago in Tampa. A. BACK. FLIP!
