Why You Should Run the 2017 Thin Mint Sprint (and Giveaway)

Disclaimer: I received race entries through a partnership with the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida in exchange for promoting the 2017 Thin Mint Sprint. All tasty opinions are my own.

The Thin Mint Sprint 5K and 1 mile Tagalong Trot returns to Safety Harbor on Saturday, September 16 for its fifth year which also makes this my fifth year running the race!

It’s no secret that I love this race. But if you didn’t know that tasty bit of tidbit, let me spell it out for you.

Will Sprint for Thin Mints-pin

G – Goodies

From the samples provided by the sponsors to the post-race feast including a bountiful assortment of Girl Scout cookies, there are enough goodies to replenish the calories you burned running a 5K.

But the real treat is for the top three 5K males and females in each standard age group! The top three age group finishers will be awarded their favorite box of cookies. Additional awards will be given to the overall 5K and 1-mile male and female.

I – Inspiring

Many of the Thin Mint Sprint participants are Brownies, Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders. Seeing so many young girls attempting to run a 5K or 1 mile or both and leading a fit life at such a young age is truly inspiring. These girls are tomorrow’s community leaders and they are leading the way to a healthy lifestyle.

R – Race Bling

Bling is what runners call medals and the Thin Mint Sprint medal is some fun bling to add to a growing collection. Every Thin Mint Sprint and Tagalong Trot participant receives a medal.

L – Location

In the heart of downtown Safety Harbor, the Thin Mint Sprint is one of the most scenic, flat 5K races you will run in the Tampa Bay area. At the start of the race, the sun glistens over the bay and the entire course provides multiple opportunities to embrace the blue space as you run. The Thin Mint Sprint is a truly zen fun run.

S – Samoa Challenge

The Samoa Challenge returns for its second year! For an added personal challenge, runners can choose to run the 5K and 1 mile race. Count me in for the Samoa Challenge for a second time!

C – Chipped Race

You thought I was going to say “C is for cookies”, didn’t you?

Well, it may surprise you to learn that Thin Mint Sprint is more than a tasty fun run. The Thin Mint Sprint is technically an official race by providing chipped bibs and offering a more accurate high-tech record of each runner’s performance. And to toss out another “C word”, the race is capped at 1500 registrants keeping the race intimate and manageable.

O – Outreach

The Thin Mint Sprint benefits nearly 20,000 Girl Scouts in West Central Florida. In addition, there are volumes of volunteers handing out Girl Scouts cookies, manning water stations and cheering on runners. Girl Scouts understand the importance of giving back and since outreach has become second nature for them, these young ladies will continue philanthropy into adulthood.

U – Unique

I’m not aware of another cookie themed race in Tampa Bay and since it benefits the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, you’re doing good in the ‘hood while you run for cookies. Plus, the Thin Mint Sprint offers a virtual race option which includes a bib and t-shirt so friends and family in other parts of the country can run for cookies with you even if they can’t physically attend the race in Safety Harbor.

T – Thin Mints

“Will sprint for Thin Mints” isn’t just a catchy catchphrase. Thin Mints are just one of the many favorite Girl Scouts cookies participants can sample after the race. To quote Cookie Monster, “NOM NOM NOM!”

Each virtual and in-person participant receives a race t-shirt and other fun swag bag items. Every K-12th grade Girl Scout that registers for the Thin Mint Sprint or Tagalong Trot (either in Safety Harbor or virtual) will receive a special patch.

So now that I have spelled out why the Thin Mint Sprint and Tagalong Trot is one of my favorite races, I hope to see you in Safety Harbor on September 16. Sign up for this year’s Thin Mint Sprint here.
