Five Reasons Families Will Love VOLTA #BigTopCirque

As part of a Valentine’s Day gift to my family, I surprised them with tickets to VOLTA by Cirque du Soleil which I received through an opportunity the Tampa Bay Bloggers. My husband and our three children (ages 16, 12 and 7) had never seen a Cirque show and I new they were in for a BIG surprise, Big Top Cirque-style!

VOLTA #BigTopCirque Cique du Soleil

Much like other Cirque shows, VOLTA did not disappoint and delivers everything you expect from a Cirque du Soleil production from elaborate costumes to outrageous stunts paired with a deep plot to awake your sensibilities. In fact, in my family of five, we all had different aspects of VOLTA that we loved the most.

Five Reasons to Love VOLTA

VOLTA Cirque du Soleil

Intimacy

My first Cirque du Soleil experience unfolded at Amalie Arena. While the lights, costumes and stunts definitely filled that venue, the #BigTopCirque erected at the Greyhound Track off Waters Ave. definitely outshines the venue formerly known as the Ice Palace.

Since the audience sits only rows away from the circular rotating stage, every seat in the house offers an up-close and personal experience. Through repetitive audience participation, the performers engage and interact with the fans to ignite the magic unique to Cirque du Soleil.

Acrobatics & Stunts

When it comes to a Cirque du Soleil show, expect a constant tsunami of stunts. “A woman was suspended from the ceiling by a bun! She hung by her hair! Why would you hang by your hair?! Doesn’t that hurt?!” exclaimed my oldest.

From tightrope walking to BMX bike tricks, every inch of the Big Top Cirque teeters on the edge of an adrenaline rush of acrobatics and incredible stunts. All three of my children watched in wide-eyed amazement, however, I was sure to tell my son, “Do not try this at home.”

Light Show & Music

The light show and music slightly upstage the talented stunt performers. Actually, I think it’s fair to say that the music and lights pair well with the mystifying stunts by enhancing the beauty, grace and intensity of each performance. Plus, the vocals and musical accompaniment of electric violin, guitar and drums produce an incredible space-age future pop sound that amplifies the magic of the #BigTopCirque VOLTA perfectly.

Waz, the Blue-Feathered Hair Boy

“I want blue feather hair”, said my bird-loving seven-year-old boy. Although the lead character, Waz, feels his blue feathered hair makes him different, his unique trait is what makes him so special and worthy of celebration and praise as The Free Spirits show him.

While the plot may be challenging for young children to follow, many children can understand acceptance and love. The world could use a bit more compassion, love and understanding.

Comic Relief

Given the deep plot of VOLTA and intense stunts, the comic relief is welcomed. Nothing like a good belly laugh to help ease the world’s worries.

Despite an irrational fear of clowns, I can put all the fears to rest when walking into the #BigTopCirque. Sure, there are silly clownlike antics, but you won’t find any clown cars here. Be warned: You may find a few red noses.

What is there not to love about Cirque. The best however was taking the girls to see KA in Vegas last summer. Watching the amazing death defying acts as they sat wide eyed watching the “wheel of death”. Priceless and memorable. Love showing my girls art in all forms.

What I love the most about Cirque shows is the music and choreography. They are always blended together in a way that feels effortless.
