Back in Style: Little Black Dress Returns to the Straz

Disclaimer: I received two tickets to Little Black Dress The Musical as an opportunity through the Tampa Bay Bloggers for the purpose of this review. The ways I’ve worn my LBD and the opinions shared are my own.

Most women have a little black dress hanging in their closet because an LBD is a staple outfit.

As a classic, timeless piece, a little black dress serves as a signature component of every woman’s capsule wardrobe because any LBD can be dressed up or down to reflect fashion trends or set our current mood.

My LBD paired with patent leather stiletto heels accompanied me to a corporate function in Vienna.

The same LBD comforted me at two funerals: once in the winter with some tall boots and stockings, another in the summer with some strappy sandals.

My LBD also helped me pull off the best Elphaba cosplay when I attended the Wicked and again, as the Wicked Witch of the West for Wizard of Oz.

And the same LBD joined me at the opening performance of Little Black Dress at the Straz on Friday night.

Yes, my LBD has seen me through many ups and downs, including my weight.

Little Black Dress portrays the beautiful relationship women have with their LBDs and their best friends. Much like our BFFs, our LBDs share our celebrations and comfort us through our sorrows.

And much like repeating fashion trends, Little Black Dress returns to Tampa with some new players, including two actors from Tampa: Jeannett Cronk (Mandy) and Danni Davis (Dee). Rachel Mclaughlin (Mom) and Clint Hromsco (Mark) complete with ensemble to pull off this hilarious musical production.

Cast of Little Black Dress (Clint Hromsco, Jennette Cronk, Danni Davis and Rachel McLaughin)

Little Black Dress follows the friendship of Dee and Mandy and their little black dresses over decades. Through ridiculously funny make-your-mama-clutch-her-pearls musical numbers, we discover how true friends and the right LBD stand the test of time. While the show follows a set premise, the cast mixes in some clever improvisation with the help of audience participation. Be prepared to bust some stitches in your LBD laughing so hard!

Slip into your LBD and see Little Black Dress before the trend slips away. With only four performances at the Straz this weekend, don’t miss it! But please, book a babysitter. This show is for mature audiences only! Go with a group of girlfriends for a truly entertaining GNO.
