I spent last weekend in Anna Maria Island with some pretty wild women great friends and like the past three years, it’s been a fuzzy, fun-filled four days. I’m sure photos will end up on Facebook soon enough to help me remember and explain how I got all these bruises. “It’s a black out blur. But I’m pretty sure it ruled. Damn.”

“Last Friday night
Yeah we danced on tabletops
And we took too many shots
Think we kissed but I forgot
Last Friday night”
Only 365 days until we do it all again.

My family and I are soaking up the sun on the beautiful beaches of Sanibel, Florida. I haven’t gone for a run, but I will. I’ve too busy enjoying the sound of sunshine.
With my guitar on the beach there with all my friends
The suns so hot and the waves in motion
And everything smells like sun tan lotion
The ocean, and the girls so sweet
So kick off your shoes and relax your feet
They say that miracles are never seizing
And every single soul needs a little releasing
The stereo bumpin’ till the sun goes down
And I only wanna hear that sound
That’s the sound of sunshine coming down
That’s the sound of sunshine coming down
I said you’re the one I wanna be with
When the sun goes down
I said you’re the one I wanna be with
When the sun goes down
Singin’ you’re the one i wanna be with
When the sun goes down
That’s the sound of sunshine coming down
That’s the sound of sunshine coming down

On Day 1 of summer vacation, the kids and I piled into the swagger wagon and headed to Honeymoon Island, which is one of our favorite local beaches. The girls and I love the beach so a day trip there seemed like the best way to start summer vacation.
Although Little Lion Man loves the water and the sand…
…he enjoys anything with wheels more.
After splashing in the sun, we visited the Nature Center for a scavenger hunt, which the girls love because park rangers always award them with a small bag of seashells. While the girls hunt through the center, I enjoy rereading the history of Honeymoon Island.
In the 1939, Life Magazine held a contest where couples could win a two week stay on the island. After which Hog Island became a popular destination for young couples, hence its name change to Honeymoon Island.
At today’s visit, the park ranger shared two treasures that another visitor recently found on the beach: a Lighting Whelk egg casing and a large sea sponge. The girls were very intrigued, especially when the park ranger said some tiny hidden eggs were still attached inside the casing.
Fun in the sun mixed with a little learning.
It seems we’re definitely off to a good start this summer!
On Mother’s Day Eve, the Taylor clan enjoyed a sunset potluck picnic at the beach. This has become a Mother’s Day Eve tradition for us, which we were thrilled to share with Allan’s sister and his mum.
Pine Island, a small sleepy little beach in Hernando County, was the perfect spot for a family picnic.
A light breeze kept us cool while we watched the cousins play along the shore and build a fort as the sun set.
Mum enjoyed the evening so much she wants to make a regular event. I couldn’t agree more.

30 Things I Vow to Do This Summer
#1 – Soak up every ounce of our beautiful white beaches Gulf before the oil arrives.
Check.
I’ve mentioned many times before about my love for our Gulf beaches and this weekend I was truly grateful to soak up every ounce of salt water and sand once again.
Using their bug catchers, the girls made a mini aquariums and filled them with sand fleas and clams they found in the muddy shores. Allana loved observing the tiny creatures swim around and stretch out their siphon tubes as they adjusted to their temporary home.

Even though we’ve been home for a few days, I told my husband that I want to go back to hug and kiss the beach again before the oil arrives.
I know the oil is coming soon and our beautiful beach days are on borrowed time.
Read the rest of the items I vow to do this summer here and view more photos of our trip to Treasure Island, FL here.
This weekend, my family and I will be spending time in Treasure Island with friends for our annual beach weekend getaway. Since our other mini-vacations were canceled this year due to allergies and illness, Allan and I chose to turn our weekend away into a mini vacation and arrived at the beach on Wednesday.
On our vacation agenda, Allan wanted to take the girls fishing at sunrise. I’ve never known my husband to get up at the crack of dawn and I was pretty impressed with his initiative. Thursday morning, the girls woke up before the crack of dawn and their excitement and a cup of coffee was all Allan needed to get moving.
I tagged along to capture the moment in photos.
It seemed it was going to be a while before anyone caught anything, so I decided to take a little stroll along the shore for some shelling and to fit in some fitness for my Juneathon efforts. Thinking I would only be gone for a little while, I left my flip-flops and water with Allan and the girls and headed south along the shore.
My shelling stroll quickly turned into a beach clean-up when I found several empty beer cans in the sand. Finding the beer cans infuriated me. With the blankets of oil arriving on the shores of Pensacola and the rest of Florida watching and waiting for the sludge to hit our shores, some drunken idiot must have interpreted the oil spill on our beaches as a landfill.
Even though bending over to pick anything up in the last few weeks of my pregnancy has been pretty painful, it felt good to clean up this small stretch of the beach. After my mini beach clean-up, it was time to return to my family. In the distance, I could see some hot pink and brown, so it seemed they were still casting away. But as I came closer to their fishing spot, I realized my shoes and water bottle were missing and the hot pink person appeared further in the distance. I assumed my family chose to try another fishing spot at the pier.
As I made my way to the pier to join my family, I chuckled how my husband left me barefoot and pregnant on the beach, but the morning heat was no laughing matter. As I waddled along, I began to feel dehydrated and tired.
When I arrived at the pier, there were no signs of family but plenty of other signs. I’ve never known groins to wave, but much like the Gulf, my pelvic muscles and my feet were beginning to swell.
It then dawned on me that my family must have returned to the hotel room. After reading all the warning signs on the pier, I contemplated waving down Turtle Patrol or the beach police for a ride back to my hotel.
Swallowing down my tears, my cotton mouth, the pelvic pain, my aching bare feet and my frustration for not taking my water with me or my phone, I had no other choice but to begin walking back to the hotel room. As I added the distance in my head, the numbers and the heat made me woozy. Visions of headlines flashed in my head. Passed Out Pregnant Mom Mistaken for Beached Whale
I passed a nesting sanctuary and I wished my own nesting had been sanctified. Why didn’t I take my water? Why didn’t my husband leave my water bottle? Maybe he did but some other self-righteous beach lover threw it away. Why didn’t he scratch a note in the sand for me? I realized once again that my husband and I need to work on our communication skills since sand sketches and skywriting are out of the question although texting is definitely his strength.
I finally arrived back at the hotel two miles and two hours later swollen, overheated, thirsty, tired and tearful but much wiser.

Well before the start of summer vacation, I have been experiencing a ton of mama guilt. With a new baby arriving right smack in the middle of summer, I worry that I won’t be able to truly enjoy summer vacation with my girls. The size of my bump and my waddle restricts my activity level, but once the baby arrives, he’ll be constantly tethered to my boobs which will also limit my level of activity.
Therefore, I’ve vow to make the most of our summer before school starts up again and I’ve got a list to help make it all happen.
Splash around at any and all of our spray grounds.

I heart the color yellow because it is such a warm, inviting color. In every home I have lived in, there has always been a yellow room to warmly welcome everyone who passed through the door. Like sunbeams gleaming through a window, shades of yellow always greet you with a sunny smile.
As I searched for photo a for this week’s I Heart Faces Yellow Challenge, so many wonderful warm, sunny yellow moments came to mind. Emmalynn and Allana twirling in a yellow princess gown pretending to be Belle or Allana tap dancing to Happy Feet at her first recital or yellow handprint duck paintings at a spring play date.
But since yellow is such a sunny, warm color that also makes me think of warm, sunny summer days at the beach, I decided to submit this photo of Allana for the challenge. Much like the sun and the color yellow, this photo warms me all over.
Saturday night, my family and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Bahama Breeze and then drove over to Clearwater Beach to catch a glimpse of one our beautiful Florida sunsets.
Watching my children play in the sugar white sands of Clearwater Beach with a gorgeous sunset as a backdrop was truly the best gift ever and the amazing songs that played on XM’s The Coffee House captured the mood of the evening superbly.
But the smiles on everyone’s faces that night was the ribbon that tied the whole package together for the perfect Mother’s Day gift.
