To say I ran it is an overstatement. I more like hobbled to the finish line. It was my worst race ever.
Whether I ran it, walked it or limped over the finish line, I still earned a medal regardless of my time which will forever be listed on Active.com with all my other race results and my husband and my kids were there to for cheer me. Having them there meant the world to me.
Now, I’m healing my body to start training all over again for my races coming up in the new year. And I’ll run another marathon, maybe Palm Beach, Jacksonville or New York. It doesn’t matter as long as I can redeem my performance next year.
I am blessed with three beautiful, brilliant children, who constantly make my smile.
I love the little people they are growing up to be, but the true blessing is that I get to watch it happening before my eyes.
Every day, they amaze me.
And every day, they give me another reason to celebrate whether it’s making honor roll…
or a little man who picks up after himself.
I am so thankful for the laughter and joy they bring, the tears I get to kiss away and the cuddles that my children continuously give me.
I am so truly thankful for each one of them in my life.
Last week, I let my blogging buddies down when I didn’t share an 80s tune, per my request to Xmas Dolly. Although I missed the memo, everyone else played along with 80s tunes for Music Monday. To redeem myself of my epic blogging fail, I shared an 80s tune today while giving thanks. All better! We’re good now, right?
For the next four Music Mondays, I’ll be counting my blessings through song. Each week in November, I will be singing my praises and giving thanks by sharing a song that symbolizes one of the many blessings in my life. Come count your blessings with me and link up while you’re here. What a blessing that would be!
Last week, I mentioned how incorporating strength training into my work-outs has helped my runs tremendously. I was so excited about my progress that I tweeted about it and my BFF, Amy Dixon, was there to giving me the pat on the back on needed.
And this time, my other virtual personal trainer, Marco Reed, chimed in to cheer for me!
Yep, I showed Marco I was a tiger. I showed him what I could do. Because strength training (and possibly Frosted Flakes) brings out the tiger in me. I’m Grrrreat!
But despite what Marco thinks, I’m not really a tiger. I’m a honey badger. I realized that when I stumbled across this You Tube video a few weeks ago.
When I watched the Honey Badger video, I laughed so hard I cried. I forced my husband to watch it and of course, he was quick to tell me how old it was and how it had circling around the Internet for ages. Whatever. It was new to me. Honey Badger don’t care. Honey Badger don’t give a sh*t.
Since watching the video, I started referring to myself as Honey Badger because Honey Badger just takes what she wants. Watch me run 17 miles in slow motion. I’m pretty bad ass.
During my 17 miles on Saturday morning, I spotted quite a few bunnies hopping around the ‘hood which I thought was odd. Being Halloween and all, I got a little spooked by all the bunnies. As each little cottontail hopped by, scenes of Night of the Lepus played in my mind.
Instead of this….
I saw this….
Now you know the real reason why running times are improving. And you thought it was strength training! Silly rabbit!
But those bunnies better watch out. I may go all Honey Badger on those little lepus.
Now watch Honey Badger run in slow motion.

*Proudly submitted to Stacy Uncorked, because when I blog about my training, it’s usually pretty random.*
You know, I’m no good. No, really I am. As soon as I learned of Amy Winehouse’s untimely death this summer, I knew exactly what I was going to be for Halloween.
Was it too soon to be a dead Amy Winehouse with autopsy scar?
Probably. But it was funny as hell, especially since Allan dressed as a medical examiner. See, no good, I tell ya.
I kept my costume under wraps for months, but I was dying to reveal it. Although my friends requested Lady Gaga to make another appearance, I assured them that this year’s costume wouldn’t disappoint them. I would be a dead ringer for another famous person.
With the help of eBay for the right wig and tattoos (and my SIL Kirsten who helped apply the tats), I think I pulled off Amy Winehouse amazingly. I went for the Rehab look and with a bottle of Southern Comfort and a syringe in my hair for props, I stayed in character the entire party to be true to my character.
But I couldn’t help from being myself! Every time I smiled big or laughed, my magnetic diamond lip stud fell off which would make me laugh even harder and difficult to stick it back on. So, I just stuck the diamond stud in new places all night long.
My friend, Chrissy hosted our annual Halloween party this year and as usual, the costumes and food were fabulous.
Everyone’s spirits were certainly lifted.
Well, at least Amy Winehouse’s were.
Next week for Music Monday, I will be sharing my favorite Halloween jamz. I would love to hear what Halloween songs move your spirit. Link up and play along…if you dare.Muhahahahahahaha!
China Anne McClain of Disney’s A.N.T. Farm released a treat just in time for Halloween and my girls love it. The choreography reminds me of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Halloween is only two weeks away! I CAN’T WAIT!
My Glee Cheerio cheerleader costume arrived and it fits perfectly and no muffin top was visible. Thank goodness! Allana will approve. However, other parts may be visible, so I’ll need to wear a pair of running shorts underneath my skirt.
I have to admit, I will look so cute running in the Frakenfooter half marathon as a Cheerio cheerleader. I think I’ll also wear it trick-or-treating with the kids this year. Fun!
My friend, Chrissy is hosting the adult Halloween party this weekend, which should be a devilishly good time as always. I am so ready to get my drink freak on!
I haven’t officially unveiled our couple costume for the adult party on the blog yet, but I am dying to spill the beans. It’s a good one. All will be revealed for next week’s Music Monday when I post pictures from the adult party.
For the next two Music Mondays, I will be sharing my favorite Halloween jamz. I would love to hear what Halloween songs move your spirit. Link up and play along…if you dare.Muhahahahahahaha!
I discovered incorporating music into a blog post was a wonderful way to express myself. It became another meaningful way to share my thoughts and a means to share my story.
During Diane’s Music Monday blog hop, I also discovered some really great bloggers as well as great music. What started as a means to fill empty space on my blog became a way to fill my MP3 player. By visiting all the Music Monday participants, I found tons of music that truly moved me and helped push me through the miles as I ran.
Wanting to continue my quest to find music to move through the miles and because I loved the Music Monday blog hop concept so much, I decided to jump in and host one too.
For a year now, I’ve been hosting Music Monday. It’s been a great experience once again discovering new-to-me bloggers and reconnecting through music with some of already favorite bloggers. Of course, with each passing Music Monday, you’re all now my favorite bloggers!
For the past year, I’ve enjoyed listening to your stories. I hope you’ve enjoyed listening to mine. So please don’t stop sharing your songs. Please don’t stop the music!
Please know that I am so grateful for all the Music Monday participants each week and every comment shared. So let’s keep Run DMT’s Music Monday going strong for another year. Keep linking up and sharing your songs with me each week. Don’t stop the party!
And to keep the party going strong and to show my gratitude, one lucky Music Monday participant will win a $15 iTunes card. So link up and play along for you chance to win!
The meteorologist lied. She said that Hurricane Irene would pull of the moisture out of our atmosphere in our area as the hurricane traveled along the eastern coast. We had 2 days with little to no humidity, but on Saturday morning the air was so saturated it felt like I was running in a sauna.
The heat is so unbearable right now, I’m afraid I may spontaneously combust during my long runs.
Every time this Kings of Leon song plays on the radio, my husband loves to share an interesting lesser know fact about it. Well, since I’ve heard his trivia countless times, it’s not so lesser know to me.
The lyrics to Kings on Leon’s Sex on Fire is really this “set is on fire”. As the story goes, a producer walked into the studio and heard the song as the band played. The producer commented about the lyrics he heard, “sex on fire”. The band thought his twist to the lyrics were funny and it stuck.
Speaking of twists and other dance moves, this week I’ve been selected as a spotlight dancer for Monday’s Music Moves Me by Xmas Dolly and the gang. Yay!
And while I’m sharing randomness (And it’s not even Tuesday!), next Monday is Run DMT’s Music Monday one year anniversary. I would LOVE for you all to celebrate the occasion with me by linking up and sharing your favorite party song. After all, we have to keep the party going strong for another year because Music Monday sets me on fire is like sex on fire.
A few days ago, my girls and I were talking about school starting up again. We got to talking about their teachers which led to me sharing stories about teaching days.
I told my girls how I would sing to my students my own version of Smash Mouth’s All Star when they made their reading goals associated with our computer-based Accelerated Reading program. I explained that the words to my revised version of the song hung on a wall in my classroom and every Friday, we celebrated the students who made their weekly reading goal by singing the song and had a small party. And then, I busted out the tune to my girls:
Hey now!
You’re an A.R. star
Get a book and go read.
Hey now!
You’re an A.R. star.
Get the points that you need.
All that reading is bold.
Strengthens your mind.
Make that goal.
“You sang that to your students?” Allana asked with a sneer. “What grade did you teach?”
“I taught third graders,” I replied.
“Oh my God. They must’ve have thought you were such a dork.”
“My students LOVED me! And you would have thought I was cool too if I was your teacher instead of your mom. So there!”
Boy, kids are tough these days. Glad I’m not going back into the classroom again this year!
So with my girls returning to school today and ready to worship their cool doughnut-giving teachers while continuing to poke fun at their dorky, very uncool only-feeds-us-healthy-stuff former teacher mom, I thought this song only seemed fitting.
My 40th birthday party was just as I had hoped. THE BEST TIME EVER!
Hubby organized a private dinner party for our family and friends at The Living Room. Surrounded by people who love me, I felt like the belle of the ball. Everyone should experience that once in a lifetime.
After dinner, we headed over to the Dunedin Brewery were the party went slowly downhill got even better with the help of great beer and a live band.
I had an absolutely fabulous time! I’m ready to do it all over again this Saturday. Hell yeah!
Despite our beach trip getting rained out and not finding a room at the Don Cesar (the pink castle), I still had a FABULOUS birthday week. Thank you for all the lovely, sweet birthday wishes!
This Saturday, Allan and I are throwing birthday party in my honor and I cannot wait! I’m looking forward to letting my hair down, laughing over drinks, dancing and acting silly with my friends. I feel like I haven’t seen my friends in ages!
For the party, I will be wearing a sexy little number I picked up at White House Black Market a few weeks ago. I don’t mean to brag…well, all right maybe I do mean to brag…but this dress looks seriously smoking on me. You know you’re looking fine when the sales associate says, “Girl, that’s HOT!” Sold!
With all the hours spent running my ass off and this little black dress, I’m bringing sexy back just in time for my birthday party.
