After working and training so hard to shave minutes off my time, I am finally seeing some progress. It’s been a long road back to the pace I ran before I became pregnant with my third child. I’ve actually hit a point where I’m faster than I was before I became pregnant four years ago and earned a new PR at the Lutz Independence Day Run 5K with a finish time of 27:35. My previous PR was 27:52, which ironically was at the very same race four years ago.
Mind you, I earned this wearing a red, white and blue tutu and crown in the summer heat which means my time will only improve as the weather cools this fall.
Nobody’s going to see me coming
Nobody’s going to hear a sound
No matter how hard they tryin’
No stoppin’ me since I found
My inner ninja
My inner ninja
My inner ninja
My inner ninja
In my quest to become faster and stronger, I had an a-ha moment during the Lutz Independence Day Run the other day when I uncovered my inner ninja. Perhaps I reached this realization as a result of all the group fitness classes I’ve been participating in as of late.
I started off the race really crazy fast and my muscles were screaming from the start, but I ignored the screams and the urge to slow down and just pushed through it, just like a group fitness instructor tells you to do in a aerobic class. “Feel the burn! Embrace the burn! Give me one more!”
See, my muscles may have been burning but it’s not the same sensation as physical pain, like I’ve experienced with a side stitch, plantar fasciitis or a shin splints. It’s just my legs whining about working hard. During that 5K, I pushed my nagging legs and embraced the burn, just like I do in Body Combat, Body Pump or a spin class.
It’s a feeling that you get in your lungs when you run
But you running out of the air and your breath won’t come
And you (Breaths in and out heavily) wheezing gotta keep a movin’
Fined an extra unh and push your way through it
Now, that I’ve figured this out, there’s no stopping me. If I can do it, you can too.
Now about that bike thing…
Stay tuned for a full Lutz Independence Day Run recap coming soon!

Awesome job Denise!! All of your hard work is absolutely paying off! Congrats on the new PR in the middle of summer dressed in Americana gear! Amazing. I do love how cute you look, though. And you’re right. You’ve just got more in the tank for the future. Your breakthrough is so on point. It’s something I need to learn to swallow. It’s just so hard sometimes.
Love how you dress up for each race. That tutu is awesome!
I need to summon my inner ninja. Great song!
OK, I’ve never heard that song but my son and I loved the video. Thanks, guess what I’ll be humming for the next couple of days.
Great job on your run!
It definitely gets in your head. lol Such a fun tune to be humming, though!
That is really great about your new speed! Good luck!

Cool song. The intro sounds like “The Last Leaf” by the Cascades 🙂
All I say to you, girlfriend is CONGRATS!!! I would have fallen on the pavement and died! Remember, I’m not a runner. lol I do need to get into the groove to start feeling that “burn” sensation again.
Your MM song pick is really “makes me get up & dance” kind of funk. Thanks for sharing a new-to-me tune and dancing with us on Monday’s Music Moves Me.
