In 2007, I discovered a passion for running. In the beginning, I could barely run a 1/2 mile. With the support of my running partners and friends, I stayed motivated and continued to pound the pavement. Thanksgiving 2007, I ran my first 5K race, The Turkey Trot.
Since then, I have increased my distance and have become completely addicted to the adrenaline rush of races. My love of running has only continued to grow as well as my list races and running accomplishments. In 2013, I added “Marathon Maniac” and in October 2014, I ran my first charity race at the Chicago Marathon for #TeamDannyDid. In February 2015, I completed my tenth marathon at the Tenth Annual A1A Marathon.
In the fall of 2018, I began a new journey and chapter when I made the decision to homeschool my son. Tapping into my former life as an elementary educator, I realized I had trained my entire life for the role as a homeschooling parent as well as discovering a new passion. Homeschooling opened a new obsession into the marathon world of unschooling.
During my time as a homeschooling parent, I quickly learned that I could combine my two passions: teaching and fitness. In 2022, I became an Orton-Gillingham Assosciate to help dyslexic and struggling readers. In 2023, I became a certified ACE Group Fitness Instructor.
Run DMT (an old school play on my initials) shares a healthy lifestyle of fitness, food and family fun from a Tampa Bay homeschooling mom on the run. Readers can experience our homeschooling life through family-friendly learning activities and field trips, healthy recipes, beautiful photo journaling and well-written storytelling as well as relive my races and training runs through photo-rich recaps.
By following Run DMT, readers will get a glimpse into the mad world of this homeschooling mom on the run who’s just trying maintain an easy pace between raising a family and races.

did anyone have any luck w/the promo code? i tried it & the message i received was that the code was invalid.
I haven’t heard about anyone having trouble. Let me look into it for you.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. It was so encouraging. I have found that I really like running as well and the c25k running plan has been so good. I can’t wait to run my first 5K soon. I also can’t wait to read about your first marathon experience. How neat that will be! God bless you in your endeavors.
Thank you for your support! Marathon Moms unite!!! 🙂 I have been following Hal Higdon’s training schedule. I find to be the perfect balance for me. Best of luck to you, too!
fyi
Where I live, DMT is about the 10 minute acid trip, raves, etc… funny play on old skool tho!
THose are such wonderful goals. You certainly can and will attain them if you just don’t stop moving forward. I learned in the ultra marathons that one foot in front of the other will take you as far as you want to go. Keep up the great work. Thank you very much for you great contribution to my blog today also. Your comment was wonderful.
run4change- You are such an inspiration! Thank you for visiting and your support. 🙂

I’m Sian, from GirlGetStrong.com and I just wanted to drop by and say hi.

We admire your blog – you seem to have a similar
dash of fun and excitement – and we’ve included you in our ‘link love’.
Please feel free to stop by when you get a minute and give us any feedback you may have.

What a cool place! We are planning a big road trip to see my family in FL this winter, so I will have to add this to my list of potential stops. Thanks!
I believe this is a comment for my “We Dig Dinosaur World” post. Definitely visit it!
I’m a running mom too! It’s kept me sane through fourteen years in the hood.
Love the name! I have only very recently come to love running too. I’m still a walk/runner but am so excited to be on my way. I’ve always admired people that run and I’m turning into one of them!
Hi Denise! You are AWESOME and your blog is full of love and positivity. I ran 3 miles the other day and it took me 52 minutes. LOL—
I REFUSE to give up! Even if a turtle can beat me this week, I will keep on keeping on. THank you for always posting about your life and love. The Thanksgiving Platter is sooooo cute!!!! 🙂
Gosh, I totally relate. Glad I found your blog. I’ll be stopping by again soon.
Great job Denise. You’ve inspired me to run the Goofy Challenge.

I laughed when I saw your link at MommyCommunity’s Tuesday Toot today because there’s a little Run DMC going on at Crumbs today. 🙂

what a cute story. SO inspiring. You can get your book published. There is a place on line to submit if I can only remember the site. Good luck with your adventures
Hi! I found you through sevenclowncircus’ Wordful Wednesday and when reading your post here, I realized we have a lot in common! It sounds like you’re living in FL? Between the Goofy Run and the Gasparilla Run, it was a guess…..I don’t live there now, but I went to school in Tampa and was raised an hour and half north of there. 🙂 If you’re not from FL….disregard the last sentence….LOL. Anyway….I also would love to be a published children’s author one day. I do freelance for a local magazine here in Hawaii, so I reached my published piece in a magazine goal last year. 🙂 Anyway…thought I’d say hello since we seem to have a bit in common! Congrats on your newest addition!
Great blog title! Gotta love a little old school. 🙂
I love that you shared you stunk at running when you started. This is something I’ve been wanting to get serious about, and haven’t found the motivation, I guess. I can barely run around my block without looking like I’m having a heart attack. Thanks to my “30 things”, I gotta get movin’!
Stopping by from TLB Tea Party. I’m an east coast FL mom(no oil yet-but hubby thinks it’s going to come).

+1
I agree with Adrienne I like that you shared the difficulty when you first began to run because I too can’t run 1/2 a mile without my shins and calfs given out but it’s truly inspirational to know that another woman struggled and has made it!
Congrat’s! For accomplishing your goals 🙂
Hi, nice to meet you !
Pretty good post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. Anyway I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon.
Heelllo! Just wanted to say website. Keep up the good work!
Appropriate name indeed! And I was just thinking of Run DMC yesterday–what had become of them! Those were the days when rap was actually enjoyable, when it didn’t take itself too seriously, and didn’t perpetuate hatred and violence!

Very cool! Thank you!
I need to send you a covert photo in the new year. I know a child that looks so much like your girls. Maybe long lost relatives? hahaha
I am a mom of young twin girls and have been a runner for about 13 years. Love it!
I used to run races, marathons, half-marathons and really enjoyed it. I tried a few half-marathons after the girls were born, but found it really difficult to find the time to train. I am able to run for about an hour 4 times a week right now and I feel that is a blessing.
How do you do it?
