A Fizzed Firework and a Party in the USA

Last night, my neighbors were having a dress rehearsal with their fireworks to prepare for tonight, which gave me an opportunity to test out the settings on my SLR camera.  As you can see, I didn’t quite figure it out.

So, if you have any tips, I would love to hear them.  Nighttime setting with flash? Sport setting? Flash off? Lower the shutter speed?  Which F-Stop?  *sigh* Lots to learn!  Hopefully I’ll snap some better photos tonight.

Speaking of duds, this morning I was a slacker.  I overslept and I missed the Lutz Independence Run.  This little firecracker totally fizzed.  So, I missed the race but there’s always next year to let my red, white and blue colors burst.

There have been some really longs days around here with and I guess my body needed the sleep.  Or maybe these little runner legs needed some better training for the marathon shopping my sisters-in-law made me endure.  No need to worry about me, though. I’m well-rested now and ready to party!

I hope your day is bursting with fun and your camera is set at the right F-stop!

Happy Fourth of July!

fireworks are just like stage lights…they are tough to get a reading on. take your camera off “auto” and manually set the shutter speed to 1/125th with an fstop of 5.6. the reason you got the “streaks” of light is that the camera sees most of the picture as black and reduces the shutter speed, probably below 1/30, so the aperture is open longer.

while not mandatory, you will get the best results if you use slide film as opposed to print film; ektachrome slide film is made for artificial light where print film tries to balance between real and artificial. Also, avoid the really high speed films, 200 asa would be good but i would not go over 400 asa.

can you tell i used to work in a photo shop???? good luck. fireworks, like lightning, are tough to capture but it looks like you’ve had some success already. Just remember that the more shots you take the better chance you’ll have of getting one or two spectacular shots….have fun

So, I’ve been so busy I’m glad it’s over in a way. We had a blast! (hmm Maybe I should not say blast). Okay we had lots of fun. So, did you ever feel like you know you’re supposed to be somewhere, but you just cannot place it. I’ve been checking everyone and I know I had an appointment somewhere, but just can’t remember. UGHHHH IT’S DRIVIN’ ME NUTS! Anyway hope your festivities were fun too & thanks for playing along. Great picks & all I can say is, “Great minds think alike”! LOL
