Toyota Meals Per Hour

Six months after Superstorm Sandy, Food Bank For New York City still struggled to deliver emergency meal boxes to needy families.  Recognizing a need for a more effective system, Toyota partnered with Food Bank For New York City.  The program called Meals Per Hour, galvanized a team from the Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC) to share Toyota know-how on how to do more with less.

Toyota set a goal to increase the number of meals given out per hour. Through small changes, the team was able to increase the number of emergency meal boxes from 25 to 450 per hour, providing 250,000 meals in the process, and proving that small changes can have a huge impact!

Watch Supermarché documentary to see what changes Toyota made and why these changes matter.  For each video view, Toyota will also donate one meal to Food Bank For New York City, up to 1,000,000 meals by July 19.

Seeing the effectiveness of the TPS for Food Bank For New City “Meals Per Hour” inspired me to make small changes to better my life.  Between blogging, training for races and entertaining my children while they are home for the summer, I struggle with finding time for household chores, particularly laundry.

Since my children are old enough to understand sorting properties (light colors, dark colors, whites) I will have them sort their clothes with new small compact hampers with individual laundry bags to carry dirty clothes to the laundry room.

In addition, each child would have their own laundry basket to fold and carry clean clothes back to their rooms to be put away neatly. A more effective system make mom’s time more manageable and the results produce a very happy mom with more free time for fun with the kids.

What can you take away from the TPS for Food Bank For New City experience?  How will you use the effectiveness of the TPS to make small changes to better your life?
