Today was the last day of school for my girls and it was a bitter sweet day. I can’t believe the school year is over and summer is here. Where did the school year go? Although I’m glad to be finished with school projects and homework, it was hard to say goodbye to my girls’ teachers. They are truly wonderful teachers. (Psst….swing by tomorrow and I’ll show you the gifts the girls made them.)
As for summer plans, I’m up to my usual Camp Mommy tricks with field trips, free summer movies, art and science projects, every summer reading program under the sun that offers something for free but we love reading because it stretches our minds and not because we’re rewarded with a free taco or book and lots of fun in the sun. Tomorrow, we kick off the summer with a day at the beach.
Can you believe this is will be our first day at the beach this year?! Unbelievable, I know, but so true. Between allergies, colds and bad weather, we haven’t been able to enjoy the beach, not even over spring break! Nothing is stopping me from getting there tomorrow, even if I have to wear goggles to keep the wind from blowing sand in my face. I’m already there.
Today is Day 5 of the Juneathon. If you’re not familiar with it, basically I’m supposed to run or do some sort of exercise every day in June and blog about it. So far so good! Only 25 more days to go!
Today is also Track Tuesday, which is the day I do speed work or sprints or fartlek, like some fancy runners like to call it. But no matter how you name it or dress it up, it’s a torture. Maybe I should have called it Torturous Tuesday instead?
I did my usual 1 mile warm-up, 4 x 0.25 sprints and then a cool down mile. Eventually, I’ll do 6 x 0.25 sprints but not until I see myself getting a tad bit faster. I’m just not impressed with my times yet. When I get back down to 7:30 or 7:15 sprints, then maybe I’ll start adding more laps. Besides, it’s too freaking hot to do more.
Lap 1 – 1 mile
Time 9:34
Lap 2 – 0.26
Time 1:50
Pace 7:07
Lap 3 – 0.24
Time 1:50
Pace 7:33
Lap 4 – 0.25
Time 1:51
Pace 7:24
Lap 5 – 0.25
Time 1:54
Pace 7:40
Lap 6 – 1.1 mile
Time 10:47
Ave Pace 9:38
Although my sprints are not getting faster, my mile laps and overall times are getting faster. So there is some steady improvement for sure! But I’m still not doing 6 x 0.25 sprints just yet!
After all my sprints, I was rewarded with a gorgeous pink and orange sunrise. What a great way to start summer!
So what about you? Did you do 4 x 0.25 or 6 x 0.25 sprints? Link up and share.

I’m so excited to see someone else call it “Track Tuesday” I was beginning to think I was the only one who did speedwork on that day. Can you tell I’ve had this discussion with friends? lol. Very nice work on those intervals!! Quarters are mentally tough!
Ohhhhhh! What a gorgeous sunrise! The last day of school really is a bittersweet day, isn’t it? And I’m with you – where did the school year go??? I’m looking forward to checking out what the girls made their teachers – they’re so creatively talented I know it’ll be good! 🙂 You really are such an inspiration – I really need to get off my duff and start moving if I want to make sure I don’t look and feel like a blob for BlogHer. 😉 And you’re so SWEET! I would love to have you guest post for me! 🙂

Oh speedwork, how i love it 🙂
Tuesday was a track day for me too…only a 5-mile tempo run. Speedwork is so hard! But in the end, it is very rewarding, I keep telling myself that!
