Earlier this week, a friend tipped me off about a u-pick peach farm near our home. When I informed my little fruitarian about the juicy opportunity to pick one of her favorite fruits, she thought the idea was peachy keen.
So on Saturday, the family and I ventured only a few miles from our house to pick a variety of peaches known as UF Sun Peaches. These particular breed of peach were designed by the University of Florida in the attempt “to create a low-chill peach cultivars with non-melting flesh that perform well in Florida’s subtropical climate“.
These peaches are smaller than the typical Georgia peaches, but smell and taste just as sweet.
And at $1.25 per pound, how could you NOT pick a bucket full?
Once again based on our u-pick pickings, our menu this week will consist of peach-centric items, including lots of peach banana chia seed smoothies for breakfast. I’m also thinking about testing out a new peach cobbler recipe similar to my blueberry quinoa cobbler one.
Speaking of smoothies, I created a new Strawberry Avocado Lime Smoothie recipe just in time for Cinco de Mayo. Plus, Allan Chef and I also concocted a new margarita recipe using Florida Cane Orlando Orange Vodka but that recipe will be available tomorrow. So stay tuned for that!
By the way, has anyone caught the fact that Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday this year? My kids are totally loving that little fact!
And if you’re planning to eat and drink a lot this Cinco de May, here’s a nifty little chart taco and beer from Run Selfie Repeat to help you this Taco Tuesday. Use this very handy chart to keep your calorie intake in tact with an appropropriate taco-beer-miles-spent-running-ratio. Know before for Cinco! #TMYK
As for the rest of the week, here what’s on this week’s dinner menu this week:
Sunday – Tandoori-Style Grilled Chicken Wings with Kachumber Salad
Meatless Monday – Skinnytaste’s Spicy Black Bean Burger and Faux Potato (Cauliflower) Salad
Taco Tuesday – Ground Turkey Tacos
Wednesday – Skinnytaste’s Oricchiette with Italian Chicken Sausage, Spinach and Bell Pepper (The Skinnytaste Cookbook)
Thursday – Brinner – Veggie Skillets
Friday – Homemade Pizza
What is the name of this farm? I have seen some u pick places, and am always looking for more
This peach farm was at a private residence off of US 41 near Capital Tacos and the U-Pick is only available on the weekends.
