Holy Hurricane Irma, Batman!
Wowser!
Irmagerd!
As Hurricane Irma approached, our home became an evacuee shelter for family members including our two sisters, two pugs and our nephews. I feared losing power or a tree falling on our roof, but we were very fortunate. While most of Florida lost power, my family and I fared with no damage to our home and we didn’t lose power.
Surrounded by family, we made the most of the stressful situation. There was a lot of laughter, wine, junk food and board games. I have such fond memories of hurricane days from my childhood and I am grateful that my children will remember Hurricane Irma the same way.
Once Hurricane Irma blew through Florida, there was a massive statewide clean up behind her path of destruction. For that reason, the schools remained closed for a week and once again, we had to make the most of what we were handed: a forced week long vacation. Thankfully, our attractions fared well and opened for business after a thorough clean-up and inspection. So, the kids and I survived #Irmageddon with a day at Busch Gardens and a day at Clearwater Beach.
This week, the schools are now finally open for business again and we’re ready to get back to our regular routine. But hurricane season is only just getting warmed up! Rumor has it that Jose and Maria may stop in to say “Hello” sometime soon.
Oh Lordy. I better stock up on more wine, chips and hot dogs. In the meantime, here’s our healthier hot dog-free dinner menu for the week.
